The representation of dance is a significant presence in late medieval manuscripts. In the following research paper, I will analyse the concepts of "time" and "rhythm" in 14th- and 15th-century sources dealing with dance. The documents considered are: dance treatises, exempla, literary texts and illuminated manuscripts. The aim of the research is to define the multiplicity of spatiotemporal dimensions that frame the performances by tracing a cultural-historical synthesis of the types and characteristics of "choreutic times": time of memory, measure, downbeat and upbeat ("empty/full of sound"), duration of performance, temporal relations between events, suspensions/timelessness, translation of times/rhythms into images.
