Giulia Taddeo is Adjunct Professor in History of Dance at the University of Genova and she is responsible for the course in Theatre Literacy at the Department of the Arts/University of Bologna. At the same Department, she was a Research Fellow between 2018 and 2021. She was a Research Fellow at the Centro Vittore Branca (Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice, 2014) and a Visiting Research Fellow at the IASH – Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities of the University of Edinburgh (2019). She is the author of the volumes Un serio spettacolo non serio. Danza e stampa nell’Italia fascista (2017), Festivaliana. Festival, culture e politiche di danza al tempo del “miracolo italiano” (2020), Danze futuriste: testi e pretesti (2023).

Abstract

During the 1970s, the Festival of Spoleto experimented with new formulas for dance shows. Under the names "concerts" and "marathons", composite evenings are staged that welcome dancers and choreographers, mostly young, very different from each other for poetics, technique and training. The essay analyses the Concerti di danza and Maratone di danza staged in a period between 1967 and 1977, questioning above all the meaning that the concepts of "classic" and "modern" turn out to assume in these events.
