Through an investigation based on theater booklets, press reviews and direct testimonies, this contribution offers an overview of the seasons of Milanese theaters in the 1970s, with the aim of understanding the role of dance in a period of crucial socio-cultural transition for the city. In this context, particular attention must be paid to the prejudices inherent in the sensibilities of the time, as well as to the attitude of the critics and the impact of the performances on the public. From La Scala to the summer festivals run by the Piccolo Teatro, from folkloristic entertainment to the hosting of the greatest international contemporary choreographers, dance in this Milanese decade experienced a development that would greatly influence the future of Italian dance.
