  Susanna Egri was born in Budapest in 1926. While still in nappies, she moved with her family to Italy, from where she fled in 1938, when the racial laws were enacted, because of her father’s Jewish origins. Back in her native Country, at the age of thirteen, Egri began to study classical ballet at the Opera School and later modern technique at the Sàri Berczik School, excelling in both until, at the age of eighteen, she was awarded the prize for the best talent of the young generation. After the Second World War, Susanna Egri returned to Italy and shortly afterwards took on two prestigious engagements: prima ballerina at the Biennale in Venice and prima ballerina at the Teatro dell’Opera in Florence. From 1949, her dance began to be closely associated with the nascent Italian television, culminating in the creation of the ballet “Le Foyer de la danse” in 1952. The rest is well known.
