  Born in New York in 1950, he studied dance at the New School. From 1968 to 1971 he was a member of Paul Sanasardo's company. In 1971 he moved to Rome where he met Elsa Piperno, with whom he began an artistic partnership that led to the creation of the Teatrodanza Contemporanea company in Rome. He has worked and studied with Jerome Robbins, Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Alvin Nikolais, Carlo Quartucci and Lilliana Cavani, among others. He was a permanent teacher at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza (Rome) from 1989 to 2017. He was director of Trinity Laban's Transitions Dance Company (London). He is currently Director of the Accademia Europea di Danza (Rome) and continues to share his artistic experience through performance, choreography and lecturing.
