The problem of memory in dance is closely linked to that of its duration and permanence in the present as an artistic fact. Over time, the theme of memory has become a recognised and repeatedly visited place; behind it has hidden the nightmare of an art that is impossible to pass on. In this essay, I propose to look at memory from the side of spectatorship. Is it possible to place the relationship between performer and spectator at the centre of the archiving process? What does it imply to build an archive that meets this need? The chosen case study, ERetici_Le strade dei teatri, can provide an operational proposal in the exploration of a new figure on the theatre scene. From archiving to custody, what role does the spectator community play today?
