He is a professor at the Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (Brazil), where he teaches dance and theatrical interpretation. He is a PhD in Theater Studies at DAMS, University of Bologna, with a thesis on Butoh dance titled Antibodies - Butoh dance as epistemological matrix for a critical pedagogy of the body, which will be partially published in a book with the title O soldado nu - origens from dança Buto. He founded the research group Anticorpos in 2011, focused on both theory and practice, through which he proposes the organisation of shows and performances. His research interests are dedicated to the intersection among dance, body and society on the basis of the Cultural Studies.

Abstract

Considered one of the most influential modern dance representatives in Japan, Tatsumi Hijikata’s work was a milestone in the Japanese post-war experimental artistic scene. Heretic son of his time, he staged a fertile mix of artistic and cultural influences, overlapping subversive elements of European arts and philosophy with radical references from pre-modern Japanese culture. In this way he built the foundations of its unstable antibody, its political-artistic project of dissolution of a organism, both physical and social.
