This work is meant to investigate the underlying thoughts on which the florentine choreographer Virgilio Sieni, Biennale Danza artistic director from 2013 to 2016, structured the international dance festival mentioned above. He focused all the Festival editions on the gesture and its fragmentations. Dance can be made by people - citizens, mothers and daughters - and their experiences, not only by professional dancers. Venice became the stage, not only the theatres or the places designated to representation. In this way all the choreographic works presented during Biennale Danza have re-founded the lagoon, aiming at creating a new geography, a sort of greek polis inhabited by choreographic practices in the perception of a new, democratic perspective of the city.
