Sara Manente

Sara Manente is an italian choreographer and performance artist based in Brussels. After studying Communication Sciences at the University of Bologna, Dramaturgy of Dance at the University of Antwerp, she obtains a post-master degree in Advanced Performance and Scenography Studies in A.Pass, Brussels. Since 2004 she has made performances, workshops, videos and research projects alone and with others in Europe, South Korea, Brazil and Vermont. Her work questions dance as a performative language: as in Lawaai means Hawaai and Faire un four. In 2016, she began a research around the critical relationship between dance and language: her Spectacles are 3 books, interviews, a lecture-performance and a 3D film with Christophe Albertijn. Together with Marcos Simoes, she worked on the possibilities of collaboration and the relationship with the public by designing practices and performative objects based on extra sensory perception such as telepathy, hypnosis and tarot.

Abstract

Spectacle #3 is a text written at the invitation of the choreographer Loic Toizé on the occasion of an "dances to be read" event occured at Honolulu, Nantes, in 2015. It is the first text of a series of three books, a movie, a lecture-performance and an archive of interviews. It is part of a broader research project on the relationship between dance and language from an economic, poetic and performative point of view. Spectacle #3 starts from some questions: which movement produces a description? Can we imagine another kind of show business? What kind of language becomes choreographic? When does a performance start and end? What do we talk about when we talk about dance?
