Abstract

The RSVP Cycle represents a point of reference for Anna Halprin as concerns the achievement of her intention: let the dance become a practice and pleasure for everybody, linked to daily activities and life, no matter the training, the age or the capability. The inclusion of people in the dance world has always been an essential aspect of her teachings. The meeting with “the other”, “the stranger”, has always been seen a an enrichment of the “inner landscape” and her task has always been to create a common ground where the human beings could meet, no matter the cultural, historical or geographical boundaries. To permit the experiences to be as inclusive as possible she looked for a common language to be able to talk to different people and create collective performances that would include different gender, cultural upbringing, age, type of training and education. The RSVP Cycle is the process and result of Anna and Lawrence’s research over the years.
