Elena Cervellati, Ph. D., is Associate Professor at the Arts Department of the Alma Mater Studiorum-Università di Bologna, where she teaches “Dance History” and “Dance Theories and Poetics”, she's the curator of the European branch of Kazuo Ohno Archives and she organizes the dance section of the theatrical season of the Centro La Soffitta, directed by Gerardo Guccini. She coordinates the editorial staff of the research magazine «Danza e ricerca. Laboratorio di studi, scritture, visioni» (http://danzaericerca.unibo.it), directed by Eugenia Casini Ropa. She's author of the books Théophile Gautier e la danza. La rivelazione del corpo nel balletto del XIX secolo (CLUEB, 2007) and La danza in scena. Storia di un'arte dal Medioevo a oggi (Bruno Mondadori, 2009); she's a regular contributor to dance and performing arts journals and collected essays books, writing mainly about the dancing body in XIX century, the forms of contemporary theatrical dance, especially in Italy, and the relationships between dancing body and words. From 1997 to 2002 she has been the manager of the Italian dance company Compagnia Abbondanza/Bertoni.

Abstract

The paper Footprints on Paper. Epiphanies and "Scartafacci" to Say Marie Taglioni (Bologna 1842) investigates a brief period of the career of one of the greatest stars of the romantic ballet, Marie Taglioni (1804 -1884). She arrives in a city of the Italian province, Bologna, in 1842, when she is at the apex of her career. In this occasion several attempts are unfolded to say her dance through the words of different typologies of poetic writings of occasion, as it also happens for other divas of the epoch, for instance Fanny Elssler.
