In June 2015 Giulia Taddeo received her Ph.D in Cinema Music and Theatre Studies from the Department of Arts at the University of Bologna with a dissertation titled All’opera ha fatto seguito il ballo: danza e stampa nell’Italia fascista. She was research resident at the Giorgio Cini Foundation (Venice) in 2013 and she spent a period of research at the Dance Division of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts thanks to a “Marco Polo Scholarship” awarded by the University of Bologna. She participated at national and international conferences and she published essays in academic revues and volumes. In 2017 she published the essay Un serio spettacolo non serio. Danza e stampa nell’Italia fascista, Milano, Mimesis. Since 2011 she is member of the editorial staff of “Danza e Ricerca” founded and directed by Eugenia Casini Ropa.

Abstract

Dance critic and impresario, Paolo Fabbri makes a short but intense journey in the field of Italian dance during the fascist period. Mainly active at the beginning of the Thirties, Fabbri proposes an idea of modernization of the dance of his time through the regeneration of Italian classical dance. The article focuses on the pivotal elements of his work, such as the sources of inspiration, the characteristics of his critical method and language, the choices he made in terms of conception and realisation of theatrical events.
